The
Maine Coast Protection Initiative (MCPI) increases the pace and quality
of land protection by enhancing the capacity of Maine’s conservation
community to preserve the unique character of the Maine coast for the
benefit of the people of Maine and beyond.
It
is 2025. The Maine coast thrives as a vibrant natural, recreational,
and commercial resource because Maine’s conservation community
has worked together over the past 20 years to increase the pace and
quality of coastal land conservation. Despite development pressures,
the Maine coast continues to be a landscape characterized by wild
rocky shoreline and coastal islands, tidal rivers and estuaries,
historic fishing access, working farms and forests, recreational
opportunities, and scenic viewsheds. Treasured by the people of Maine
and people from across the nation and world, this landscape hosts
a diversity of fish, wildlife, and plant communities. As well, working
landscapes along the coast contribute greatly to the economic vitality
of the state.
